need help tuning vintage bass drum?
i want that deep thud with sharp attack....not really any resonance. its a rogers kit and i have really good heads on them...i just cant seem to get the sound i want.
please ask me questions cause i need the help zeroing in on that sound!

Take off the resonant head and cut a hole in it. 5" diameter or so, and off center. Then put a blanket in the drum and put the resonant head back on. The blanket will muffle overtones from both heads and the hole will allow air to move through the resonant head, making the batter head less bouncy and more slappy. It will also make it easy to adjust the blanket for optimal muffling.
