Total Percussion
What should I do to prepare myself for a major in Music Therapy?
I was wondering what good volunteer oppurtunities would help with Music Therapy, any classes I should take in high school or my local community college, and what instruments I should learn or further my ablity in. I am currently enrolled in an AP Music Theory course at my high school. I've taken piano for about 4 years, quit because of my teacher, but I have continued to play for a total of 7 years and have played percussion in school for 5 years. I also sing, but without any formal lessons. Any feedback ot input would be great and if you are a major in Music Therapy, a description of what you do and do you enjoy it.
Another conflict is where a good college program would be.
This is a program that is very specialized and not in much demand. The reason being is because most of the people in this field actually get psychology degrees, MASTERS degrees and do art or music on the side (not really formal training). I have no idea why, but LOTS of psychology majors are really good artists and musicians.
The best thing for you to do now is identify the schools that offer this degree and check the admissions policies. Then to scour your local classifies to see if you could actually find a job with this major. Also check the starting salary and if it's what you can raise a family on.
