Why does my second bass mounted tom drum make a weird metallic noise?
I have tightened all of the screws on the inside of the tom, the tuning pins aren't loose, and neither are the mounting arms. the bass drum itself is just as well, but especially when i hit the edges of the tom drum, there is a weird sound of metal vibrating against metal... i cannot find what's vibrating.
Inside of the lugs there are springs, one or more may be loose. You should be able to isolate which one it is by tapping on each lug. When you find it, remove the tension rod, then remove the lug. If the spring has come off, just put it back on, if it was on some drummers will pack each lug with cotton balls to minimize spring noise. If none of this is the problem, make sure the heads are seated correctly all the way around the rim and hoop, could be that.
