How can i find an agent for my photography? I think I'm ready to go pro, any tips?
I'm looking to get some representation but i'm not sure how. I've had two small show's that went well and i'm looking to take the next step.
I don't know about reps, but I work at a gallery and going into galleries with a portfolio of your work and some pricing is a good idea. That way you can be shown in galleries and get a name for yourself before handing over a chunk to someone who will do the leg work for you, or just take a chunk for doing nothing (depending on who you get).
Check out (local) galleries and see if your work would go well with what's already there, continue to have shows and that will definitely help get your name out there.
Having a business card and a website will help a lot, as people can then commission you or, after buying a piece of your work, buy another, and it portrays that you're serious. Always put your card in with whatever you sell, and have it available at shows. Do not cheap out on a website, but don't pay an obscene amount for it either - you don't need full Flash and all of that.
If you do get someone to represent you, talk to others they already represent and figure out if it's worth it, what they do exactly and what sort of results to expect. Read any contract they give you VERY carefully!
When you do visit galleries, dress fairly decent, not TOO fancy but suitable for the gallery so they know you're not just some weirdo off the street who has a camera. Have a well-done portfolio with you and you might even want to phone ahead to book time with the owner/curator.
