Ludwig Snare
How Much would it cost to mic my Drum Kit, and what should i use?
My kit has a Ludwig Snare, Small Tom, A medium Tom, A Floor Tom, A Bass Drum, A 14' Paiste High Hat, a 17' Paiste Black Alpha Crash, a 18' Paiste Medium Crash, A 19' Paiste Black Alpha Crash, A 10' Paiste Black Alpha Splash, A 18' Paiste Black Alpha Rock China. I want to mic my kit for under or equal to $150. Can any one give me an estimate of what it would cost, and what mics you would recommend?
Wow that's a lot of stuff. Well you can actually use two mics to mic the whole kit. Check out this link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiFOD1EeKhQ. The mics they are using are Rode NT5 stereo matched pair mics, you can find them used for about $300. I would also the get a SM57 for the snare and a Audix D6 for the kick. Total will be about $700, but you'll get a pretty decent sound. Next compression, eq and a myriad of other tool to make it sound like drums on a record.
