What are the benefits of an expensive brand name bass drum pedal?
I don't see why people spend $100+ dollars on a pedal when they can stick with their stock ones....
Where to start? There's tons of benefits to having a quality kick pedal.
For starters, you can get smoother action. In fact some of the better pedals are fully adjustable.
You can get a quicker response time and a quicker return time.
One thing most people don't think of is what type of drive a pedal has. If you get a spring drive, some of them are double-drive. Two springs means less tension on each for the same action.
You can also get a chain drive and not have to worry about springs. With chain drives you can also get a double-drive.
One warning with the chain drives. Some people have trouble with them snagging. If you do get chain drive be sure to keep it lubed well.
To, the cheaper spring drives usually use cheaper metal. The good pedals use high quality spring steel. The high quality spring steel is actually lighter than the cheap stuff hence the better action.
That's not saying you have to have the more expensive pedal. I used a stock single spring drive pedal for years. It's just a consideration if the drums are going to be your main instrument.
