Drum Head
Does the width of the rim of a Drum Head denote the tone/timbre of it?
I am making a Bodhran for my daughter, and wondered if the depth of the ring would denote the deeper sound or timbre of the finished drum.
The rim will not change the sound but if you make the side deeper, it will affect the tone.
But with the hand placed on the inside of the skin, it is able to control the tension (and therefore the pitch and timbre) by applying varying amounts of pressure and also the amount of surface area being played.
